Prerequisite: Health and Environmental Studies A, or approved equivalent.
Contact: 12 hours of lecture presentations and 66 hours of practical work over 11 days in the field. Students will have the opportunity to begin written work before Field Experience.
Timetable: Summer semester.
Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- understand the role of adventure activities within the physical education curriculum;
- demonstrate improvement of skills in a range of adventure activities;
- examine recreational areas and facilities and assess their utility for school programs; and
- discuss school camp organisation and operation, and a range of adventure and integrated activities suitable for inclusion in school programs.
Content:
An examination of existing recreational areas and facilities, their organisation and administration within the community, and implications for school programs. Practical work oriented towards the development of both understanding and personal skills in outdoor adventure activities.
Assessment:
A written assignment of approximately 1,500 words (30 per cent); a journal of approximately 2,000 words (30 per cent); satisfactory standards in practical areas (40 per cent). All components must be completed satisfactorily.
