Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- understand functions of the human body and relate them to activities designed to promote and maintain good health;
- demonstrate an understanding of children's physical growth and motor development;
- demonstrate an understanding of the influences and issues in child and adolescent health; and
- demonstrate an understanding of the complexity of human sexuality.
Content:
An introduction to the nature and scope of teaching and learning in health and physical education. Topics will include structure and function of the human body; growth and motor development; and human sexuality. Physical education main activity areas will be the focus of practical classes.
Assessment:
Written exercises equivalent to 1,000 words (33 per cent); assignments totalling 2,000 words or equivalent (67 per cent).
