483-432 Teaching Method in Music Classroom 2D

Note:

1. The following subject description applies to each of 483-432 and 483-433.
2. Teaching Method in Music Classroom 2D is only available for students enrolled in Teaching Method in Music Classroom 1D.

Credit points: 5.6.

Coordinator: Ros McMillan.

Prerequisite:

• Teaching Method in Music Classroom 1D: Teaching Method in Music Classroom 1C and 100 points in Music, including 33.3 points at Group 3 level; taken in conjunction with Teaching Method in Music Instrumental D-183.3 points in Music.
• Teaching Method in Music Classroom 2D: Teaching Method Music Classroom 2C and 200 points in Music. Students must have some vocal and keyboard performing competence.

Pre/Corequisite: (For each Teaching Method D) Satisfactory completion of Education Studies C, School Experience C and a minimum of 250 points credit in the course. Concurrent enrolment in Education Studies D and School Experience D12.

Contact: A 2-hour lecture/tutorial each week for 15 weeks.

Timetable: Double semester.

Content:

A study of the methods and materials of music education in relation to the needs of students in modern secondary education. World trends in music education, in relation to the situation in Victoria. Topics include: music curriculum development; teaching philosophies; organisation of school instrumental and vocal ensembles; administration of a music department.

Assessment:

A major assignment (80 per cent); participation and contribution to class (20 per cent). Participation in all classes and completion of all assignments.
