483-431 Teaching Method in Media Arts D

Credit points: 5.6.

Coordinator: Lee Emery.

Prerequisite: For students enrolled in 1992 or earlier, 91.7 points in Media Arts subjects which must include 45.8 points Practical and 45.9 points Theory. Students who commenced their studies in 1993 or later 91.7 points in Media Arts subjects which must include 33.4 points Practical and 58.4 points Theory. Practical subjects include: Media Arts B10/11, B20/21, B30/31, C10/11, C20/21, C30/31.

Pre/Corequisite: (For each Teaching Method D) Satisfactory completion of Education Studies C, School Experience C and a minimum of 250 points credit in the course. Concurrent enrolment in Education Studies D and School Experience D12.

Contact: A 2-hour seminar each week for a total of 15 weeks.

Timetable: Double semester.

Content:

A study of the role of media in the school curriculum and the ways in which activity in the area can best be initiated and developed in the school. Demonstration of the use of classroom materials and teaching strategies in the various fields of media, including print, film and electronic. Topics include: preparation of lesson plans in these fields, finding access to resources, and ways of integrating media studies into other teaching areas.

Assessment:

Class participation (50 per cent); written assignments in the form of media studies lesson plans (50 per cent).
