Prerequisite: Teaching Method in English as a Second Language C and completion of or enrolment in Language and Literature C27: Grammar, or a two year sub-major in Linguistics or a LOTE, or one year of each, or an approved equivalent.
Pre/Corequisite: (For each Teaching Method D) Satisfactory completion of Education Studies C, School Experience C and a minimum of 250 points credit in the course. Concurrent enrolment in Education Studies D and School Experience D12.
Contact: 30 hours of lectures and workshop.
Timetable: Double semester.
Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- plan, implement and evaluate suitable ESL programs, incorporating appropriate content, classroom organisation, methodology and resources; and
- demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the socio-cultural context of ESL teaching including educational, cultural, historical and intergroup issues.
Content:
Focus on the development, implementation and evaluation of ESL programs in post-primary settings.
Assessment:
Essays and assignments equivalent to 2,000 words.
