Note: Special Requirement: Students should see the subject coordinator as early as possible after enrolment to discuss their project.

Coordinator: Ray Misson.
Prerequisite: 33.3 points in Group 3 Language and Literature subjects.
Contact: Students are required to submit by Easter an outline of the work they wish to pursue. After approval of the project, students will be attached to a member of the Language and Literature Department who will supervise the student's work for the year. Supervisors will be responsible for assistance with reading lists, discussion, and the development of drafts and will notify the subject coordinator of progress at the end of May and at the end of July. Two copies of the final draft (preferably typed) must be submitted no later than the first day of October.
Timetable: Double semester.
Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- organise and carry out a research project with the skills appropriate to the task;
- formulate ideas at some length in the form appropriate to them; and
- develop areas of personal interest into a substantial written presentation.
Content:
Students work under supervision on a project of individual interest in one of the following areas: a detailed critical study of an aspect of literature; the production of a substantial piece; a folio of fiction, poetry or drama; or a substantial research project into an aspect of the teaching of literature or language in schools.
Assessment:
A critical study of approximately 8,000 words on an aspect of literature or the production of a substantial piece of creative literature or a folio of fiction, poetry or drama or a research report of approximately 8,000 words into an aspect of the teaching of literature or language in schools (100 per cent).
