Note: This subject allows certain BEd (Primary) students to complete a 33.0 point General Studies sequence in Related Study Area Visual Arts.
Credit points: 8.3
Coordinator: Marg Stephens.
Prerequisite: Art B12, or approved equivalent.
Contact: Students will meet initially with the lecturer to negotiate the project and then individually by mutual arrangement.
Timetable: First or second semester.
Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- identify the concepts and skills associated with young children's art productions;
- examine at both theoretical and practical levels the development of these concepts and skills in children; and
- plan, implement and reflect on a series of activities which will further an adult's understanding of children's responses to stimuli, their use of materials and their development of a visual language.
Content:
Individual projects will be developed arising from each student's personal knowledge and experience in the visual arts. Each project will involve planning activity sequences which involve observation of young children's artistic concepts and skill development.
Assessment:
The development and implementation of the project; final project report of 3,000 words or equivalent.
