Pre/Corequisite: School Studies B44. Students must also have completed or be concurrently enrolled in School Studies C40 to enrol in this subject.
Contact: A 2-hour class each week for ten weeks.
Timetable: First semester.
Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- understand basic theories of second language teaching and learning; and
- as generalist teachers, understand and use approaches to teaching English as a Second Language.
Content:
English from the viewpoint of the second language learner. Topics include: how English is structured as a language, English as a system for communication, the methodology of second language teaching, second language acquisition, syllabus design, and error analysis.
Assessment:
Assignments totalling not more than 2,000 words.
