Timetable: First semester.
Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- identify the major characteristics of the arts;
- identify the ways in which the arts contribute to learning and to personal development;
- articulate the reasons why the arts are essential in the education of primary school children; and
- participate in a range of practical arts activities with understanding and confidence.
Content:
Development of an understanding of the nature of the arts in education, through seminars and practical workshops covering the arts learning processes of perceiving, transforming, expressing and appreciating. Emphasis on the commonality of these processes within various art forms.
Assessment:
A written report of at least 1,000 words (50 per cent); a performance project in the Arts (50 per cent).
