476-421 School Experience D

Availability: Not offered in 1996.

Credit points: 11.1

Prerequisite: School Experience C and School Studies C1.

Corequisite: School Studies D and Education D.

Contact: Normally one block of four weeks in October/November. The school-based component of School Studies D Curriculum Integration and Practice and Education D is normally also undertaken at the same school.

Timetable: Double semester.

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students will be able to demonstrate that they are capable of beginning work as an independent teacher in a primary school.

Content:

Placement in a school designated by the Faculty. Through direct experience, the subject provides for the students the opportunity to work at a level which consolidates all previous experience in schools. Through sustained and comprehensive teaching assignments students will be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to plan, implement, evaluate, reflect, research and report on both specific and integrated curricula designed to cater for the needs of all learners.

Assessment:

A school experience portfolio (15 per cent); 20 days of supervised school experience (85 per cent).
