Year 1 Bach. Teaching.
Credit points: 5.0
Prerequisite: As approved for the particular teaching area.
Corequisite: School Experience & Practice Teaching 1.
Contact: 20 hours equally divided between the students' two specific teaching areas preceding the final School Experience & Practice Teaching 1 placement at the end of the semester.
Timetable: First semester.
Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- demonstrate an understanding of the nature of the learning experiences and curriculum content associated with two learning areas;
- demonstrate an understanding of some teaching strategies appropriate for specialist subjects within each learning area, including classroom organisation and the use of resources; and
- demonstrate an ability to plan learning experiences appropriate for different age groups and backgrounds of students.
Content:
Students will study the nature of learning and curriculum content as well as lesson preparation and basic classroom teaching skills and strategies in two learning areas.
Assessment:
A written assignment equivalent to 1,000 words focusing on the preparation and performance of single classroom lessons for each learning area. (50 per cent each).
