316-364 Economics C4: Economic Growth and Development

Credit points: 11.1

Prerequisite: Economics B11 and Economics B22, or approved equivalent.

Contact: A 2-hour seminar class for two semesters, except during BEd (Secondary) block periods of School Experience. Class presentations and activities may be required, as determined at the commencement of the subject.

Timetable: Double semester.

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

Content:

Economic growth and development with particular reference to Third World economies. Topics will include: relevant models as a framework for the study of development problems; agriculture; financing of development; population; technological progress; industrialisation; and the role and influence of government. Both domestic and international issues are considered.

Assessment:

A 2-hour examination (60 per cent); class assignments totalling approximately 3,000 words (40 per cent).
