316-361 Economics C1: Public Finance

Prerequisite: Economics B11 and Economics B22, or approved equivalent.

Contact: A 2-hour seminar class for two semesters except during BEd (Secondary) block periods of School Experience. Class presentations and activities may be required, as determined at the commencement of the subject.

Timetable: Double semester.

Content:

An examination of the economic, equity and welfare effects of government taxation and revenue-raising policies on the political-economic system; the economic and functional effects of inter-government finance; and the impact of government policy on the structure and path of the Australian economy during the past decade.

Assessment:

Written submissions (totalling approximately 4,000 words) (90 per cent); class participation (10 per cent). To gain a pass in the subject students must perform satisfactorily in each area of assessment.
