Prerequisite: Accounting B11, or approved equivalent.
Contact: Two 1-hour lectures and a 1-hour tutorial/workshop each week, except during block periods of School Experience weeks.
Timetable: Double semester.
Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- discuss and analyse the development of the theory and methodology used by accounting theorists;
- critically examine the accounting regulatory process;
- describe and critically analyse a framework of accounting concepts; and
- identify and discuss some specific contemporary issues in financial accounting.
Content:
Accounting concepts and standards and their application to accounting reports. Topics include: accounting theory development, accounting regulation, and an examination of specific accounting issues.
Assessment:
Minor assignments (10 per cent); tutorial exercises and participation (10 per cent); a 1-hour mid-year test (10 per cent) and a final 3-hour examination (70 per cent). Students must perform satisfactorily in each area of assessment and submit all exercises and assignments.
