Prerequisite: Interdisciplinary Arts C or equivalent.
Contact: This subject is offered externally, normally with four hours contact time on campus; however, students may negotiate with the lecturer for additional contact time.
Timetable: Double semester.
Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- demonstrate an understanding of the important influences on and developments in the Arts from the late 1800's to 1939.
Content:
The Arts and their interrelationship, in Europe from the late 19th century to 1939. Developments in two of the following: visual arts, music, literature, dance, theatre arts. Historical background and the impact on society, particularly families, and the Arts of such revolutionary thinkers as Marx, Nietzsche and Freud.
Assessment:
Written assignments totalling up to 4,500 words or equivalent (100 per cent).
