Prerequisite: Art C or equivalent.
Contact: This subject is offered externally, normally with up to four hours contact time on campus; however, students may negotiate with the lecturer for additional contact time.
Timetable: Double semester.
Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- demonstrate a theoretical understanding of the functions of art in the 20th century; and
- relate this understanding, where relevant, to their own experiences of art practices in the local environment.
Content:
The origins of 20th century Art Sculpture and Architecture. The development of painting from the classic style of Cezanne through to the major 20th century art movements, e. g. , Cubism, Futurism, Expressionism. The work and motivation of important architects of the 20th century. A general analysis of the development of sculpture.
Assessment:
Folio entries (100 per cent). Students must satisfactorily complete up to six items of assessment.
