466-362 The Early Childhood Professional 3A

Prerequisite: The Early Childhood Professional 2 or approved equivalent.

Contact: Two 1-hour lectures and a 1-hour tutorial/workshop each week.

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

Content:

A study of the early childhood professional as a leader and advocate within the service, programme or centre and in the local community; a consideration of the nature of political processes as they influence the way in which early childhood professionals undertake those roles; strategies for working with parents and other human services professionals and the roles this may involve; a study of the Code of Ethics developed for the early childhood field; skills necessary for programme evaluation and assessment of personal progress.

Assessment:

Essays and class reports totalling 3,000 words (60 per cent) and a 2-hour examination (40 per cent).
