Prerequisite: Australia 1A and 1B or approved equivalent.
Contact: Two 2-hour lecture/seminar/workshop sessions each week and excursions.
Timetable: Second semester.
Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- demonstrate knowledge of the changes that have taken place in twentieth century Australian society;
- demonstrate a familiarity with the major historical events of this period in Australian history;
- demonstrate an understanding of the social impact of these events;
- demonstrate knowledge of particular problems related to post-war development and depression; and
- demonstrate an awareness of the expression of these issues in creative literature.
Content:
A study from the perspectives of history, literature and sociology of two different periods of post-war Australian society in the twentieth century with emphasis on family life and childhood in those years.
Assessment:
Two 2500-word essays or equivalent (50 per cent each).
