Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- understand some of the early and present day influences on Australian society from the perspectives of history and sociology;
- understand the significance and influence of migration on Australian society;
- be aware of the representation of some of these influences in Australian imaginative literature; and
- demonstrate an ability to express ideas, understand arguments and respond to material related to Australian society.
Content:
An introductory study of some of the major influences on and representations of the men, women and children in Australian society in the early nineteenth century and the present day from the perspectives of history, sociology and literature.
Assessment:
Written work equivalent to 2,500 words (100 per cent).
