Contact: Two 21/2-hour sessions per week. These sessions may include practical workshops and individual and group project work, lectures, seminars and theatre visits.
Timetable: Second semester.
Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- demonstrate, in theory and, to a limited extent, in practice, a basic knowledge and understanding of the primary elements of music, and the principles of musical composition;
- apply skills in communicating with and teaching students;
- use dramatic forms consciously in relation to sound and musical stimuli; and
- demonstrate an ability to link some of the elements of music and drama in practical performance.
Content:
A practically-oriented study which includes interdisciplinary tasks involving basic skills in music and a further understanding of dramatic forms and techniques. Extensive use will be made of tuned and non-tuned percussion instruments, voice and movement.
Assessment:
Practical project work with performance (60 per cent); and written project work of up to 1750 words or equivalent (40 per cent).
