Contact: Two 21/2 hour sessions per week. These sessions may include practical workshops and individual and group project work, lectures, seminars and theatre visits.
Timetable: First semester.
Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- demonstrate basic skills of dance and drama;
- identify and use the resources of voice and body in improvisation;
- demonstrate an understanding of aspects in dance and drama; and
- articulate their knowledge of dance/drama by critical analysis.
Content:
A theoretical and practical study of dance and drama as they relate to theatre and performance. Topics will include exploration of basic skills in both dance and drama through improvisational techniques. An introduction to performance and characterisation culminating in an analysis of and appreciation for dance/drama for children and adults.
Assessment:
Practical project work with performance (60 per cent); and written assignment work with a maximum of 1750 words or equivalent (40 per cent).
