Contact: A 2-hour workshop and a 3-hour workshop/tutorial per week. Video observation, written commentaries and project work in consultation with the Lecturer-in-Charge.
Timetable: Second semester.
Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- demonstrate dance-making skills in a performance project for young children;
- understand the individual's capacity to explore and form personal movement statements as a source of small group studies;
- relate practical knowledge to theory such as an understanding of dynamics and the body's movement in space; and
- demonstrate an appreciation of the variety of dance forms for young children.
Content:
A practical and theoretical study of dance including more complex dance and performance skills, the exploration and formation of dynamic elements and auditory stimuli in relation to the body's movement in space, a variety of choreographic structures as related to movement analysis and the appreciation of selected dance forms for young children.
Assessment:
Practical projects equivalent to 2,400 words (60 per cent); and written critical analysis equivalent to 1,600 words (40 per cent).
