Prerequisite: Curriculum Theory 1A
Contact: The equivalent of six hours of lectures, workshops and tutorials per week, two field days, three curriculum days, a practicum preparation workshop and 15 days practicum.
Timetable: Second semester.
Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- understand the way in which the environment affects children's play;
- plan, implement and evaluate the "learning environment" in a variety of early childhood contexts;
- demonstrate a professional role which is consistent with a developmentally-based curriculum; and
- demonstrate knowledge and skills across a range of subject areas which contribute to the early childhood curriculum.
Content:
Introductory and further study of some of the following subject areas: art, music, drama, creative movement, social studies, children's literature. The role of the professional in creating a developmentally appropriate learning environment.
Assessment:
Curriculum projects equivalent to 2250 words (30 per cent); and satisfactory completion of 15 days practicum and related practical and theoretical work as specified in the DECS Practicum Handbook (70 per cent). To gain a pass in the subject students must perform satisfactorily in each area of assessment.
