Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- describe a number of theories of organisations and organisational behaviour including classical organisation theory, human relations theories, systems theory, contingency theories, and behavioural organisation theories;
- relate the theories of organisations to their own practice as educators and administrators in TAFE and post-primary organisations;
- use skills of critical analysis in their study of recent research and apply them to behaviour in their organisations; and
- understand structures, functions and behaviours in organisations.
Content:
Individuals and organisations; organisational structures and functions; groups; leadership; communication; decision-making; organisational change.
Assessment:
A field assignment of 1,500 words (30 per cent); an assignment of 3,000 words (70 per cent).
