The program offers students a means of developing and extending an interest in Russian and former Soviet studies. The program draws on subjects offered by the Departments of Political Science, History and Germanic Studies and Russian. Russian language study is an integral part of the program.
Although Russian Language is not compulsory in the first year, it is highly recommended; those students who wish to enter the program and begin Russian at a later date are strongly recommended to undertake the summer subject 183-103/203/303 Intensive Beginners' Russian at the beginning of their second year.
A major in Russian Studies requires the completion of at least five semester subjects at second or third-year level (83.3 points), and including Russian language at a minimum of intermediate level.
Entry to the Honours School in Russian Studies is subject to the completion of all the requirements for the pass degree, with a major in Russian Studies including advanced level Russian Language, normally with an overall average of H2A. Only combined Honours is available in Russian Studies, and students must also meet the requirements for Honours in the combining department.
