The Communication Skills Program consists of five subjects, two at introductory, two at intermediate and one at advanced level. The subjects are not sequential. Subjects are available for students of the Humanities or Social Sciences (for example Arts, Law, Commerce or Music students) and for students of Science/technology subjects (such as Science, Engineering, Medicine or Agriculture and Forestry students).
Students will be enrolled at the level determined most appropriate to their needs on the basis of a placement test and interview.
Students may take only one of these subjects for credit towards the Arts degree. Arts students wishing to take additional subjects should contact the Arts Faculty Office for further advice. The Introductory level is available for 1st year students while Intermediate and Advanced are available for 1st and 2nd year students.
Students from other Faculties wishing to enrol in Communication Skills subjects should contact their home Faculty.
Students who are taking more than one ESL subject towards their Arts degree may not count any Communication Skills subjects towards their degree.
A booklet containing more details of the Communication Skills program is available from the Centre for Communication Skills and ESL, 151 Barry Street, Carlton (phone: (03) 9344 4491).
