Prerequisite: Hindi 2A requires an H3 or better pass in Hindi 1, or Co-ordinator's approval; Hindi 3A needs a pass in Hindi 2B or Co-ordinator's approval
Contact: Six-weeks in India of five 3-hour lectures and five 1-hour practical classes per week.
Timetable: Summer semester
Objectives:
Students will be encouraged to acquire fluency in spoken Hindi through informal contact with native Hindi speakers in addition to extensive formal classroom instruction. Informal contact is arranged by inviting local citizens, particularly students, to the classroom.
Content:
This subject is taught intensively by a La Trobe University staff member over six weeks during January and February in a Hindi speaking town in India. It is a consolidation of the language skills learned at first year level. Students are responisble for their own expenses.
Assessment:
one 2,000-word essay in Hindi (40%), six 15-minute oral reports (20%) and one 3-hour examination (40%). In addition, students in Hindi 3A are required to give an oral report on a novel to be read in the class. The essay is due after returning to Australia and the final examination will be sat shortly after that.
