This is a practical introduction to the Spanish language. The student acquires the language largely in genuine or simulated real-life situations (a communicative approach to language learning), rather than through insrtuction in grammar and translation. For this reason, five contact hours are involved. Throughout the semester, culural aspects of the Hispanic world are introduced through the language classes.
Assessment:
End of semester written test: 30%; coursework consisting of tests and written exercises: 20%; and oral work: 50% (= Aural comprehension and transcription exercises 10%; reading performance and comprehension 10%; oral summaries of written and audiovisual materials 10%; production and presentation of role play dialogues 10%; prounuciation exercises 10%)
