Objectives:
By the end of semester, students will be able to read, notate and recognise aurally simple melodies and basic chordal sonorities, and to discuss the principal movements in Western musical history from 1600 to 1800 and their characteristics.
Content:
Elementary materials of music: music reading, sight singing and basic writing techniques; introduction to music of the Western tradition.
Assessment:
Regular listening and writing tests (50 per cent); end-of-semester sight singing test and written examination (50 per cent).
