Objectives:
Students who complete this subject should be able to:
- be familiar with social change processes as they are reflected in social policy and community services development in Australia;
- understand contemporary debates and practice in relation to social policy and community services delivery, with particular emphasis on competing philosophies of individual and social/collective responsibility and concepts of citizenship and social justice;
- understand the actual and potential contribution of social work to social policy development and social change.
Content:
An examination of key contemporary social policy debates in relation to income security, work and unemployment, housing and community services, and an examination of social work practice in relation to these issues.
Assessment:
One essay of up to 4,000 words.
