Objectives:
Students who complete this subject should be able to:
- design either a descriptive or an impact form of evaluation research program.
- measure the appropriate variables for evaluation research, including the issue of how to properly record the various elements that make up the program.
- assess such outcome variables as crime itself, including use of observational and self-report methods.
Content:
The subject will discuss the various forms of evaluation research. It will cover the problems of measurement in such research, including such issues as how to measure the actual content of programs (numbers of staff, sources of recruitment of clients, profiles of clients) as well as the outcome indicators including the measurement of criminality. Data analysis will also be covered.
Assessment:
Up to 5,000 words of written work at 3rd year level and 6,000 words at 4th year level. An examination may be substituted for part of the written work.
