Prerequisite: 3rd year: Any two second year level Criminology subjects; 4th year: Admission to Criminology Honours.
Contact: A 1-hour lecture and a 2-hour seminar.
Timetable: First semester
Objectives:
Students completing this subject should be:
- familiar with the range of recent criminological research dealt with in lectures;
- able to evaluate recent criminological research in terms of the adequacy of its methodology and the effectiveness with which it is presented in publications;
- able to conduct library research into a given criminological topic and produce a logically structured, coherent, and concise evaluative report setting out the prior research on the topic in questions, and suggesting ways in which such research could be improved in future studies
Content:
An evaluation of very recent criminological research conducted in Australia and overseas.
Assessment:
Up to 5,000 words of written work at 3rd year level and 6,000 words at 4th year level. An examination may be substituted for part of the written work.
