Prerequisite: 3rd year: Any two second year level Criminology subjects; 4th year: Admission to Criminology Honours.
Contact: A 1-hour lecture and a 2-hour seminar.

Objectives:
Students completing this subject should:
- have a broad understanding of the structure and authority of the United Nations; the major crimes against world order and the methods of implementing United Nations doctrine;
- be able critically to analyse United Nations doctrine and its implementation;
- be able to conduct library and field research in this area;
- be able to make orally and in writing a positive, scholarly contribution to policy and practice in this area.
Content:
The evolution of UN structure, sovereignty, criminal code, peace keeping and sanctions. Human rights: content and procedures. Control of arms, drugs, the environment.
Assessment:
Up to 5,000 words of written work at 3rd year level and 6,000 words at 4th year level. An examination may be substituted for part of the written work.
