Prerequisite: An H2B average over all subjects completed towards a criminology major, with a minimum of two completed 2nd/3rd year criminology subjects.
Contact: One 1-hour lecture and a 2-hour seminar per week
Timetable: Second semester
Objectives:
Students who complete this subject should have:
- developed techniques of bibliographic research necessary for preparation of criminology research reports;
- developed knowledge of principles of research design in criminology;
- an awareness of general modes of analysis necessary for criminological research;
- prepared a proposal for a Fourth Year Honours thesis.
Content:
This seminar is to be undertaken by those who intend to do fourth-year honours. It involves an examination of criminological literature as it relates to criminological research and treatment of research techniques. The subject will involve the formulation and development of a research topic, with an appropriate bibliography, in preparation for the fourth-year thesis.
Assessment:
A research essay of 5,000 words
