Contact: Two 1-hour lectures and a 1-hour tutorial per week.

Objectives:
Students who complete this subject should be able to:
- identify the key institutions and agencies of criminal justice in Victoria and Australia;
- understand the roles, objectives and methods of operation of institutions such as the police, the courts and prisons;
- have a knowledge of alternative dispute methods.
Content:
The aim of this subject is to provide a broad survey and introduction to the major institutions of criminal justice, to discuss the key players and operation of state agencies in responding to (and creating) offensive behaviour, and to consider the strengths and weaknesses of existing forms and methods of crime control in Australian Society.
Assessment:
A major essay (2,000 words) (50%) and a 2 hour examination (50%).
