183-307/311 Science German Reading Course

Credit points: 16.7 2nd and 3rd years

Coordinator: Ms Christine Saffar.

Prerequisite: None.

Contact: Supervised self-instruction including language-laboratory work totalling 25 hours.

Timetable: Either doublesemester 183-307 or single semester 183-311, 1 or 2.

Objectives:

To provide basic skills in reading science German. On completion of the subject students should be able to read and translate into English a passage taken from an authentic science German text with the aid of a dictionary.

Content:

Programmed instruction under individual guidance from the lecturer, then translation of scientific texts from students' fields of study.

Assessment:

A 3-hour examination comprising translation of sentences and a selected passage from German to English.
