183-217/317 Intermediate Russian (Business) 2

Credit points: 16.7 2nd and 3rd years

Prerequisite: Intermediate Russian (Business) 1 or equivalent.

Contact: Six hours a week throughout the semester.

Timetable: Second semester

Objectives:

This subject aims to provide students with the language and cultural understanding to orient effectively the emerging business culture in Russia. On completion of the subject the students should be able to manage simple business transactions. Students should be able to read relatively complex general and bsiness texts, write simple business letters as well essays and reports and make straight-forward business telephone calls. Target vocabulary is approximately 2,500 words.

Content:

Some advanced grammar and word-formation. Texts and activities covering e. g. marketing, advertising and simple contracts. Multi-media materials designed for developing skills in business Russian.

Assessment:

Oral and written weekly class exercises (30%); one oral class presentation (10%); brief tests on grammatical and situational material (10%); one 2-hour test (40%) and oral examination (10%).
