Prerequisite: Intensive Beginners' Russian, Beginners' Russian or equivalent.
Contact: Six hours a week throughout the semester.
Timetable: First semester
Objectives:
This subject aims to consolidate language situations and structures covered during the Intensive Beginners' Russian and introduce more complex grammatical forms and structures. In the second half of the semester business language and situations will be introduced. On completion of the subject students should be able to introduce a company, describe its activities and 'their' role in these, as well as be able to book a hotel, make travel arrangements and compose simple classified advertisements.
Content:
Intermediate grammar and syntax taught where possible in situational contexts using multi-media materials. Texts from periodical press, email news materials and simple business literature.
Assessment:
Oral and written weekly class exercises (30%); one oral class presentation (10%); brief tests on grammatical and situational material (10%); one 2-hour test (40%) and oral examination (10%).
