Objectives:
By the end of the subject, students should:
- have gained an insight into how and why language sounds the way it does, and how we learn to perceive and produce it accurately;
- have acquired skills in the major techniques of instrumental analysis of speech, including articulatory and acoustic analysis.
Content:
The instrumental study of articulatory and acoustic phonetics; speech synthesis.
Assessment:
Three assignments totalling 5,000 words.
