Objectives:
By the end of the subject, students should:
- have a general knowledge of the language families of South East Asia;
- be familiar with the main sociolinguistic and historical features of these families;
- be familiar with the main linguistic structures of these families.
Content:
Study of the major languages and language families of South-East Asia. Specific and common features of their phonology, morphology, syntax, genetic reconstructions.
Assessment:
An essay and up to three problems, totalling up to 5,000 words.
