Credit points: 16.7 points 2nd and 3rd years

Coordinator: Ilia Pejros.

Prerequisite: Completion of any 1st year Linguistics subject (preferably Communication across Cultures).

Contact: Three hours per week.

Timetable: First semester

Objectives:

Students who complete this subject should:

• understand the ways in which culture is represented in language;
• understand the role of the cultural component in language;
• have developed skills in discovering, analysing and describing the cultural component in languages.

Content:

Introduction to the study of the cultural domain in languge in modern and traditional societies.

Assessment:

Three practical assignments and an essay to a total of 5,000 words.
