161-446 Philosophy of Knowledge and Rational Inquiry II

Year 4 Philosophy.

Availability: Not offered in 1996.

Credit points: 11.1 4th year

Prerequisite: Entry to fourth-year Honours.

Contact: Two hours a week.

Objectives:

Students will gain an acquaintance with a topic of current research interest in the area of epistemology. They will be able to read, evaluate, and respond to research literature in such areas.

Content:

An advanced study of problems and issues in contemporary epistemology.

Assessment:

One 3-hour end-of-semester examination. An alternative assessment by up to 4,000 words of essay-work (either during the semester or as a take-away examination) may be permitted; students unable to complete this essay by the due date will be required to sit the examination. Students will be advised in the first week of the subject if this option is available.
