Year 4 Philosophy.
Credit points: 11.1 4th year

Prerequisite: Entry to fourth-year Honours.
Contact: Two hours a week.
Timetable: Second semester
Objectives:
After completing this subject students should have achieved:
- a relatively comprehensive grasp of the contribution to moral philosophy of the selected authority;
- an enhanced understanding of certain central issues in moral philosophy.
Content:
One or more works of great philosophers of the past dealing with problems of moral and/or political philosophy.
Assessment:
One 3-hour end-of-semester examination. An alternative assessment by up to 4,000 words of essay-work (either during the semester or as a take-away examination) may be permitted; students unable to complete this essay by the due date will be required to sit the examination. Students will be advised in the first week of the subject if this option is available.
