Year 4 Philosophy.
Credit points: 11.1 4th year
Coordinator: Dr Graeme Marshall.
Prerequisite: Entry to fourth-year Honours.
Contact: Two hours a week.
Timetable: First semester
Objectives:
Students completing this subject should:
- have a mastery of at least the contemporary history of the problem under investigation;
- have an appreciation of its distinctions and significance;
- be in a position to make an original contribution to its resolution.
Content:
An advanced study of contemporary issues and problems in the philosophy of mind.
Assessment:
One 3-hour end-of-semester examination. An alternative assessment by up to 4,000 words of essay-work (either during the semester or as a take-away examination) may be permitted; students unable to complete this essay by the due date will be required to sit the examination. Students will be advised in the first week of the subject if this option is available.
