Year 4 Philosophy.
Credit points: 11.1 4th year
Coordinator: Dr Allen Hazen
Prerequisite: Entry to fourth-year Honours.
Contact: Two hours a week.
Timetable: Second semester
Objectives:
The students enrolled in this subject should:
- achieve an understanding of some current trends in philosophy;
- achieve the ability to apply knowledge and understanding of current trends in philosophy to other areas of philosophy;
- achieve a basis of understanding of current trends in philosophy in order to further pursue philosophical investigations.
Content:
Problems and issues of central interest in current philosophical debate.
Assessment:
One 3-hour end-of-semester examination. An alternative assessment by up to 4,000 words of essay-work (either during the semester or as a take-away examination) may be permitted; students unable to complete this essay by the due date will be required to sit the examination. Students will be advised in the first week of the subject if this option is available.
