161-432 Ethical Theory I

Year 4 Philosophy.

Credit points: 11.1 4th year

Coordinator: Dr Katrine Keuneman.

Prerequisite: Entry to fourth-year Honours.

Contact: Two hours a week.

Timetable: Second semester

Objectives:

To help students investigate the problems posed by embodied existence from a variety of philosophical perspectives -- phenomenological, epistemological and ethical.

Content:

An advanced study of conceptual and ethical problems posed by our existence as embodied individuals and social beings. Both continental and English-speaking philosophers will be studied.

Assessment:

One 3-hour end-of-semester examination. An alternative assessment by up to 4,000 words of essay-work (either during the semester or as a take-away examination) may be permitted; students unable to complete this essay by the due date will be required to sit the examination. Students will be advised in the first week of the subject if this option is available.
