Prerequisite: One first-year single-semester Philosophy subject. Students who lack this prerequisite, but believe themselves adequately prepared to attempt any second/third year subjects, should consult the Head of Department.

Timetable: Second semester
Objectives:
At the completion of this subject students should be able to:
- show an understanding of the issues raised in classes;
- display acquaintance with some important past recent contributions to the discussion of those issues;
- indicate an awareness of how those issues are related to broader concerns in contemporary philosophy;
- manifest philosophical skill in arguing in an alert and well-informed way for conclusions related to issues raised in classes.
Content:
Contemporary metaphysics and its bearing in the nature of God, including the coherence and compossibility of various candidate divine attributes, and constraints they place on God's relationship with human beings.
Assessment:
One 2-hour end-of-semester examination (50 per cent) and an assignment of no more than 3,000 words (50 per cent).
