Objectives:
By the end of the subject students should:
- appreciate the language structures and styles evident in the primary sources;
- be able to to incorporate into their theses Japanese language materials related to their thesis topic;
- be able to select the major points of the chosen materials.
Content:
An independent translation of Japanese text equivalent to 6,000 words in English translation.
Assessment:
Students submit an English translation of a Japanese text chosen by the student and approved by the Course Coordinator. The main assessment criterion is that students should demonstrate a clear understanding of the Japanese text through lucidly expressed English paraphrase; a word-by-word translation is not acceptable.
