Objectives:
On conclusion of the subject students will have grasped the basic functions/grammar of the language and acquired some basic spoken, listening, reading and writing skills.
Content:
A course in basic Japanese. Students will be expected to learn the two kana syllabaries and to read materials using these syllabaries.
Assessment:
Assignments and quizzes totalling not more than 2,500 words in written work; one 2-hour written examination; one oral/aural perception test (maximum 30 minutes).
