158-113 Standard Chinese 1B

Credit points: 18.75 1st year

Coordinator: Dr Yunji Wu.

Prerequisite: Some knowledge of a Chinese dialect

Contact: 6 hours per week.

Timetable: Second semester

Objectives:

Students who complete this subject should have reached approximately the same level as Chinese 2B. They should have mastered the basic grammatical structures of Modern Chinese, and have a vocabulary of approximately 1,200 characters.

Content:

An accelerated subject for students who speak a dialect of Chinese, and who have completed Standard Chinese A.

Assessment:

One aural/oral examination (30 minutes); one written examination (3 hours); homework to a maximum of 1,800 words. Students are required to attend a minimum of 70% of all classes in order to be eligible to take the examination.
